Anti Vitamin K (AVK) therapy remains the most effective, proven and cost effective treatment of pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and is used in long term prevention of the former conditions in case of increased risk (eg. atrial fibrillation).

AVK therapy is also a leading cause of iatrogenous complications (sometimes caused by drugs interactions), with the possibility of life threatening bleeding in case of overdose.

Its optimal dosage and monitoring is a daily task of general practitioners and anticoagulation specialists. Yet, no widely available free and open source software exists to help them accomplish their mission.

FreeMedForms community decided to code a fully free and open source AVK manager based on up to date science and algorithms published in the medical literature. This endeavour is completely independent of pharmaceutical industry influence or funding.

We’ll quickly review the scientific basis of our work, the algorithms and the code base, as well as invite you to join us to improve AVK manager and port it to other free software electronic medical records.

While studying medicine and then practising as a general practitioner for 4 years, I started learning about free software by myself. I gradually spent more and more time contributing to FreeMedForms free and open source medical apps project.

I run a free software health IT consultancy business called FreeMedSoft.com. I’m advocating for free software, data decentralization, encryption and independence from pharmaceutical and proprietary software industry in healthcare with other LibreHealthCare community members.

In my free time I organize cryptoparty privacy workshops.
