Access to quality healthcare is a right of every individual, however, a large part of rural population in developing countries like India do not have access to same. This is particularly acute among the tribal community who are a marginalized section of the society.

This talk is about a Tele-Consulting Framework developed using the open source Asterisk IP-PBX which is aimed at improving the healthcare support for such communities.

This project is conceptualised and being implemented for a tribal
community in Wayanad district of Kerala. We chose this district specifically because it is one of most backward districts in India and
has a high tribal population. We have done the initial testing of the entire system A full scale field implementation of this system is being planned at Chekadi tribal mission in Wayanad

This project is expected to make a significant impact on the health status of tribal community in Wayanad. This project aims at overcoming the key hurdles faced by the community like the remote nature of the location and lack of adequate infrastructure by providing a tele-consulting based healthcare delivery. Similar implementations can be replicated across other remote communities for improving the health status.
